The British Royal Family has a long tradition of sailing for sport, and strong ties with the yacht racing world. The royal sailing yacht Britannia, built for the future King Edward VII in 1893, won over two hundred first prizes (although never in the Olympics) between 1893 and 1934. On King Edward's death 1910 she was inherited by King George V, who is shown at the helm in these photographs of c.1925. At the King's wish, Britannia was scuttled after his death in 1936
